Prayers For Grandma

Quote Of The Day: “My heart was hurting, watching her like that.” -Kenny

This past weekend Kenny went to QingYuan to visit Grandma. She moved there not long after Grandpa passed. Its her hometown and she has lots of relatives there that could take care of her where as in Guangzhou now that Grandpa is gone, its just her and she’s lonely at home since Kenny works all day. She’s been fine up til now but we’ve ran into some issues.

Grandma has been having pain in her lower legs this week. They brought her back to Guangzhou cuz there are more hospitals here, care is more urgent and she has less insurance problems here. She was admitted to the hospital because she couldn’t walk. Kenny said she went on a hiking trip with a couple of her friends and when she came back she started to feel so pain and it got progressively worse. I’ve been meaning to post about this but lots of stuff was going on and we didn’t know what her condition actually was. So today is like her 3rd day in the hospital and Kenny finally got a hold of her doctor to discuss the details. Doc diagnosed her with Guillain-Barre Syndrome which is something I hadn’t even heard of before this. It is a rare condition where the immune system starts attacking the nervous system. It sounds so serious! I don’t know if the end result if untreated will be paralysis, but it sure doesn’t sound good.

Kenny has been waking up extra early every morning to go visit Grandma. She has had some numbness in her face so at first they thought she was having a stroke. But her test have finally come back and she has Guillain-Barre. I think it is treatable with meds. So they might start treatment next week. Her insurance only allows her to stay in the hospital for 15 days. So hopefully they can begin treatment ASAP, because we don’t have much time. I know Kenny is really worried and stressed about this because he’s very close with his grandparents. I’m not good at consoling so this is stressing me out too. Hopefully the meds will help and we’ll have to go from there. Praying for Grandma.
